Personally, I will drum at dawn, handle the book sale at the library from 9 to 11, do my librarian shift from 12 to 3, and do gazing with Braco in the evening, ending with drumming at sunset - which, fortunately, is after the gazing sessions.  On Sunday, I need to mow grass between drummings and gazings.  Heartbeat, heartbeat, heartbeat.

MEANING OF THE 365 DRUM BEATS

This is following the Moon and the Sun cycle of the ancient counting of time. In order to honor our ancestors, the new generations, our grandmothers and grandfathers. To remember the Beauty and Sacredness in all Living Creatures on Planet  and in the Universe. This is for the Balance between the feminine and the masculine in our lives, in the Heart of the Earth,  in the Heart of Humanity and in the Heart of the Sky. And for the Healing of all our relations.

According to a Sacred Prophecy revealed at the Otomi Ceremonial Center by the Otomi Toltec Elders:

The last gathering in ancient times was on 1521. 483 years alter, the first ceremony in recent times was held on March 21, 2004 in Temoaya, Mexico. Drum circles joined around the world on the Spring Equinox. This Ceremony coming from the Otomi Toltec Spiritual Tradition has continued each year. We closed a cicle of 8 years .  And starting a new cicle.

WHAT IS THE 8,000 DRUMS CEREMONY?

The Ceremony of 8,000 Sacred Drums is part of the ancient Otomi culture and tradition, and it has a history of at least four thousand years, from the ancient holy city of Cuicuilco. According to oral history, with the eruption of Xitle volcano, a pilgrimage arrived at the Valley of Toluca and founded the Sacred City of Ndongu (located in the actual Sierra Otomi of Temoaya), where this tradition was continued.

With the arrival of the Aztecs to the Valley of Mexico in 1325, almost 700 years ago, the city of Ndongu was called “Xiquipilco”, which means “Place of the Eight Thousand”, as this place had been used to gather 8,000 drums for rituals, ceremonies, healings and holidays. This tradition developed to maintain harmony with Mother Earth and the Universe.

In the late 1980s, the Otomi Toltec people built the Otomi Ceremonial Center to reinstate the tradition of 8,000 drums in their lands.  Since 2004, they have been organizing annual events, and continuing with the 8,000 drums ceremony on the Solar Eclipse in May 20^th,2012.

HOW CAN I HELP?

Join Us!  One of the most important things you can do to help is to join the ceremony, take responsibility for your part in healing Mother Earth.  Come togehter and be part of the Great Gathering. 

Beat the Drum!  You can also organize a drumming ceremony where you are, and beat the drums like a heartbeat, starting at the Dawn, noon and Sunset).

Take Responsibility!  Reconcile yourself with the immense spaces and territories devastated by the actions of humans, as we have forgotten that Mother Earth is not our property, but rather that we are a part of her. It is time to remember this vision of the world of our indigenous ancestors, recognizing the sacredness of Mother Nature, each family and species, to honor life and be grateful every day.

Support Us!  The ceremony needs sponsors and support.  You can organize a fundraiser to help people travel to the ceremony who otherwise might be unable to attend, or to help cover the costs of accommodating thousands of people in this sacred place. 

Spread the Word!  Tell friends, colleagues, relatives, and all your relations about the event.  Just imagine what might happen if duringthe Solar Eclipse on May 19 th and 20^th, 2012, the entire world took a break, found a drum, and started beating it to the sound of the heartbeat of Mother Earth.  Wars would have to stop.  People would smile at each other and feel grateful to be alive.
