Bhikku Bodhi
Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi is an American Buddhist monk originally from New York City. He holds a PhD in philosophy from Claremont Graduate School (1972). In late 1972 he received monastic ordination in Sri Lanka, where he lived for twenty-three years. He was the editor for the Buddhist Publication Society in Kandy from 1984 until 2002, and has translated numerous texts from the Pali Canon into English, among them the complete Samyutta Nikaya.
He now lives at Chuang Yen Monastery in upstate New York and teaches there and at Bodhi Monastery in northwest New Jersey. In 2008, together with several of his students, he founded Buddhist Global Relief, a nonprofit charity dedicated to the battle against global hunger and supporting food relief and education for children in southern Asia and Africa.
